I'm only just beginning with knitting jumpers, and would really like to knit the Tunic features on pages 78-79 of Jo Sharp - Knit Issue 1.  However, no matter how often I read the pattern, I cannot make sense of the instructions for Inserting the Pocket Linings into the jumper - can anyone share their wisdom with me on this problem, please?

This will sound a bit rambling. Don't know this pattern, and you may need a second pair of needles but do you knit so many rows, knit along y stitches and then then turn,  knit x no of stitches, turnagain  and knit a strip from these next x stitches This would then be knitted into the space where it was taken from and the front knitted as usual. This is for a double pocket.
For a single lining  you knit so many rows, knit some stitches then rib x stitches in the middle, turn and just on these x, knit y rows ribbing  and cast off? Then using a second pair of needles (or one with knitting on it), cast on the same amount of stitches as the ribbed section and knit up the same number of rows from the end of the ribbing, or as instructed. Now with the front piece, knit along to the cast off stitches and insert the strip you just knitted. The ribbing just gets sewn down. I have even had to pick these up from the top of the ribbing. grin

Thanks so much for replying, Ann - the instructions are as for your first paragraph.

How exactly is that I incorporate the pocket linings into the Tunic, please?

After I posted it, I realised that I had forgotten about that embarassed You stitch the two edges of the strip to form the pocket but I'm trying to remeber how I did a pocket top for the folded edge. Maybe a combination of both.  The second single pocket is much easier and less bulky and has the advantage of the pocket top already in place, but you san always pick up from the first row oof ribbing and knit down from those stitches with the knit side on the pocket inside, and then adding into the gap. I'm a bit on the large size so tend not to add extra bulk round my hips these days. smiley

Thanks so much for all your help, I really appreciate it.

I hope, in the next couple of months (currently finishing off a couple of other projects) to give you an update - preferably news of how nice the jumper looks, how well it fits and how beautifully the pockets sit in it!
