I just completed a gorgeous cardi knitted in Jo Sharp's Tweed (85% wool/10%silk/5%cashmere) Unfortunatley it has sewn up too big for me........so so so disappointed as I love it.  Can it be successfully taken in by using a sewing machine??? or should I do it by hand???  OR..........dreaded thought, should I unpick the WHOLE cardi & start again?Huh??......  It is a fitted cardi with darts & so lovely.....I honestly thought it was the right size........ so disappointed.... I could have  almost gone down 1 -2 sizes!!!!!!!!!!  shocked shocked

I have exactly the same problem.  I am actually wanting to find out if I can use my overlocker as I need to take in about 4 inches on each side of the sweater dress i just made.  I am a size 12 and I knitted up the medium but there is just way too much bulk in the dress bit and it makes me look like I'm wearing a maternity dress.  Everything else is perfect.  Can I use an overlocker with the knife or will it all just fall apart.

I think I'm going to try on one of the swatches I knitted up and put it through the wash and see what happens.  I'll report back.  It's Patons Smoothie and the sweater dress is in the current issue of VK (VOgue Knitting).

Hi......I actually phoned the knitting shop where I purchased the wool & they got me to check my tension.  When I started knitting, I was a tight knitter & had to use a size bigger needle to get the tension right.  I have apparently become more of a 'normal' knitter now & therefore the garment turned out way way too big.  The only thing they suggested I do is to start all over again. At first I was devastated & then thought about it............ the wool was expensive & I am not going to wear it the way it is...........so guess what............I am about to unpick, skein the wool, wash the wool, then roll it all up & start again.  I know.....what a dreadful thought as I could never ever ever consider overlocking or even sewing it to take it in..... oh DON'T OVERLOCK....... not my recommendation, anyway.  Check your tension.... It's up to you but I couldn't bear that knife cutting thru the wool.
