Hello,

I'd like to share with you all how great knitting has been for me over the past few months as a theraputic activity.

I had a car accident on Anzac Day last year and have been in rehab since to try and get better. I am getting better, but I found that the days at home go so much faster if I can put my mind to something creative.

I learnt to knit when I was a teenager, and now at 26, have picked it up again. I'm so excited  cheesy I started by making some beautiful scarves for gifts and moved on from there. (thanks for those that offered me suggestions).

Knitting is a great way to get your mind off pain etc and to watch something beautiful appear before your eyes.

I just wanted to encourage others that during tough times, knitting can be a rewarding, comforting and uplifting activity - good for the mind and soul  Smiley

I can second that Smiley  I find knitting is good for healing the mind.  It allows me to take a step back.

Yep, knitting is definitely good therapy!  It is good for the soul, and I use it as stress-busting therapy on a daily basis.  I didn't knit for about 5 yrs and really missed it, and wondered how I could possibly incorporate it in everyday life.  Then I discovered sock knitting, and haven't looked back this summer.  Socks are such great little projects and make wonderful presents for friends and family alike.  And the advantage of knitting small things like socks is you can pick up a sock and knit only a row or two, and put it down again if necessary, and so on throughout the day, which fits perfectly with a busy lifestyle.

Here's hoping it is continuing to help you with the rehab and that you are now on the mend smiley

I agree polperrobookworm (phew! a long name!)

Knitting is therapuetic. I find it meditative, especially intricate patterns. Some years ago I knitted a cardigan which had several panels of different patterns in it and while I was knitting it I totally blocked out the world and all my attention was on my work.

Unfortunately the yarn I used was not that fabulous and I learnt a hard lesson, purchase the best yarn you can afford, it is easier to work with and will look great for many, many years.

I also love the idea of creating a fabric. The whole thing of weaving and knitting is intoxicating.
