Fundraising blanket project

Hi all!
I need some advice... we are planning to make a blanket/throw (about 1.4m square) of 20 cm squares (x 49) for our fundraising auction. I would like to know the best wool to use.... meaning the softest wool for a good price! Not acrylic, and nothing too hard to knit. Any suggestions? Also - if you suggest something, could you please tell me how much yarn we'll need? Thanks! There are 6 people on this project.
Thanks for your time!
Wendy

Hi Wendy
I would recommend the Jo Sharp DK/8ply, as its a good price, but you still get a huge range of colours and a top quality yarn.
Hope that helps
take care
